By Remar Nordin

JOHOR BAHRU, July 2 (Bernama) -- Specialist hospital KPJ Pasir Gudang is expected to have a new building next year to meet the increasing number of patients at present.

Chief Executive Officer Mohd Azhar Abdullah said the tender for construction of the proposed building has been put out and is projected to be fully operational by the third quarter of 2019.

It will have 15 beds, six Intensive Care and five High Dependency Units, 24 clinics for specialist doctors and 206 parking bays.

KPJ Pasir Gudang will also be renovating the existing five and eight-storey buildings to house 36 and 21 additional beds respectively.

"We will also have two new units, namely for Endoscopy and a Catheterisation Laboratory specifically to treat heart patients.

"It is hoped that with the additional units and beds, the waiting time for patients to receive treatment will be shortened, with sufficient space for their treatment," Mohd Azhar told Bernama when met at the KPJ Pasir Gudang Hari Raya open house, here today.
