Labuan Health Department outlines plans to further improve services

LABUAN, July 3 (Bernama) -- the Labuan Health Department has outlined strategic plans to further improve the medical care services to the people, said Health secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Chen Chaw Min.

He said the department planned to turn Labuan into a healthy island with more friendly services and a specialist service centre to care for the local residents  and those in the rural areas of Sabah.

"We are glad to note the tremendous improvement in medical care standards here with more specialists and improved facilities," he said at the presentation of Excellent Service Awards to 80 staff of Labuan Health Department here today.

At present there are 14 specialists and two medical consultants serving in nine specialist units which include orthopaedics, radiology, paediatrics, surgery, emergency and trauma as well as obstetrics and gynaecology.

He said the number of medical officers had increased to 131, a growth of 118 per cent compared to last year.

He said a number of upgrading works were carried out on Labuan Nucleus Hospital including its building structure and its facilities apart from setting up village clinics in Rancha-Rancha and Batu Manikar, among others.

Dr Chen also disclosed a total of 11 projects had been approved for implementation this year including the construction of 46 units of staff quarters and upgrading of Kg Bebuloh village clinic to health clinic.
