Health Minister happy with visit to Sabah - Dr Dzulkefli

KOTA KINABALU, Aug 2 (Bernama) -- Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad expressed satisfaction after holding meetings with medical officers of the Health Ministry in conjunction with his first visit to Sabah, yesterday.

He said that during the visit he had closed-door and separate meetings with health officers in Kota Kinabalu to identify problems faced by the medical officers which were described as a "toxic work culture” at the hospitals.

Dzulkefly said that as a result of the meetings, several matters had been raised besides issues concerning policies, restrictions in carrying out their jobs as well as issues relating to planning and the development of health facilities.

"The purpose of holding the separate and closed-door meetings was to listen and study the differing perspectives from the Graduate Medical Officers (PPS), medical officers and specialist medical officers on their work situation and the obstacles faced,”he said in a statement here tonight.

In addition, he was also given a briefing on the operations of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) as well as the restrictions faced especially by the forensic and ambulance services.
