KOTA KINABALU, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- The total number of hand foot and mouth disease (HFMD) cases reported in Sabah as at yesterday was 2,611 cases, up six cases compared to 2,605 cases on July 27, says Sabah Health director Datuk Dr Christina Rundi.
According to Rundi, among the districts which recorded the highest cases were Kota Kinabalu with 564 cases, followed by Beaufort (393), Penampang (258) and Sandakan (221).
She said so far 24 schools and nurseries throughout Sabah were still closed following the discovery of HFMD cases in these premises.
Meanwhile in BUTTERWORTH, the total number of HFMD cases in Penang have fallen since last Friday and it was described as a good development by State Health, Agriculture and Agro-based Industry and Rural Development Committee chairman Dr Afif Bahardin.
However, he said the authorities were still monitoring the situation in the state closely to ensure HFMD spread was fully contained.
“There were 81 cases reported on Friday and the total fell to 42 cases on Saturday, 41 cases on Sunday and yesterday there were only 17 cases. I hope the trend would continue,” Afif said.
