GOPENG, Sept 2 (Bernama) -- No new case of mumps has been reported in schools in Sarawak, said Deputy Health Minister Dr Lee Boon Chye.
He said in normal circumstances, an outbreak of mumps could be contained and patients would recover in less than two weeks.
"There is no need for concern as the students only require to rest to fully recover,” he told reporters when asked on an outbreak of mumps among students of Sekolah Menengah Agama Izzuddin Shah in Ipoh.
Dr Lee was met by reporters after visiting victims of a thunderstorm here today. Some 39 houses in three housing areas were damaged in a storm yesterday.
Last Wednesday, 21 male students of Sekolah Menengah Agama Izzuddin Shah were reported to be having mumps and were given out-patients treatment.
