Mumps a big headache at Perak Sukma

IPOH, Sept  14 (Bernama) -- Mumps is turning out to be a big headache at the Malaysia Games (Sukma) which Perak are hosting.

Earlier this week, Sabah’s men and women’s futsal teams had to pack up and go home after one of the players  was afflicted by mumps and now the same has  happened to Negeri Sembilan’s women’s lawn bowls squad,

Perak Youth and Sports Committee chairman  Howard Lee Chuan How said nine team members and two officials left for home yesterday to get treatment.

He said the state Health Department confirmed that one of team members. aged 19, was afflicted by mumps.

However, he said this case was not linked to the Sabah case and that the case history showed the patient had been in contact with a sibling who had mumps before coming to Perak.

He added that the squad would be bringing a player to join the mixed events and that their men’s lawn bowls squad was not affected because there had been no contact  between them and the patient.
