Stop sale of products with suspicious health claims

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 25 (Bernama) --  Companies which label their products with claims of treating and preventing diseases must stop their actions immediately, Health Ministry (KKM) director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

“It will give the wrong perception which will result in the public ignoring the basic principles of disease prevention which is cleanliness of self and surroundings as well as preventing non-communicable diseases by practising a healthy lifestyle.

"There is no strong evidence that products such as for the hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD), anti-cancer and such are effective in preventing infection,” he said in a statement.

Dr Noor Hisham said any products which have evidence of medical claims to treat and prevent diseases must first be analysed and registered with the ministry.

He advised the public not to easily duped by medical claims made by suspicious products.

Members of the public can send in their complains and enquiries to the Public Complaints Management System (SisPAA) at http://moh.spab.gov.my.
