GEORGE TOWN, Sept 25 (Bernama) -- Up to 90 per cent recovery rate can be achieved if nose cancer such as Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma (NPC) is diagnosed and treated early, according to the National Cancer Society of Malaysia Penang Branch (NCSMPG).
Its chairman Datuk Seri Dr T. Devaraj said nose bleeding, ringing or buzzing sounds from one ear, and a lump in the neck are some of the common symptoms of nose cancer.
He said if the said symptoms were present, it is highly recommended to see a doctor to have an early diagnosis with a high chance of recovery with the current modern treatment.
“If picked up early, there is around 80 to 90 per cent success chance of recovery,” he told reporters during the announcement for 14th “Relay for Life Penang 2018” at Penang Hospice House, today.
He was asked to comment on the current situation of the National number one badminton star Datuk Lee Chong Wei which has been confirmed having been diagnosed with an early stage nose cancer last Sunday.
Devaraj said according to World Health Organisation (WHO), cancer no longer needs to be a death sentence, as the capacity exists to reduce its burden and improve the survival and quality of life of people with the disease.
