Unregistered vaccines, tablets for abortion seized

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 4 (Bernama) -- The Health Ministry has confiscated two types of unregistered vaccines and tablets from India believed sold in the black market for illegal abortions.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement said from raids conducted on two suspects in Negeri Sembilan and Kuala Lumpur, police recovered 350 vials of the unregistered vaccines valued at more than RM28,000 and 1,400 Misoprostol tablets worth RM63,000.

"The products seized are Bio Typh Typhoid Polysaccharide Vaccine, Tetanus Vaccine and Cytolog Misoprostol tablets.

“Initial investigation found the vaccines were sold directly by locals to clinics in the Klang Valley,” the statement said.

Noor Hisham said sales of unregistered products is against Regulation 7(1)(a) of Control of Drugs and Cosmetics Regulations 1984 and offenders could be fined not more than RM25,000 or jailed not more than three years, or both.
