SUNGAI PETANI, Oct 24 (Bernama) -- The Kedah Health Department seized 388 bottles of various brands of alcoholic beverages under the Amendment to Rules and Regulations Governing Alcoholic Beverages Enforcement operation in Sungai Petani town today.
Kedah Health director Datuk Dr Norhizan Ismail said, the 10 am to 2 pm operation, involving personnel of the Kuala Muda District Health Office (PKD) and assisted by Yan PKD and Bandar Baharu PKD, inspected five separate premises.
"The inspection was conducted in accordance with the Amendment to Rules and Regulations Governing Alcoholic Beverages which was enforced on Oct 16. We conducted inspection on five premises and seized 388 bottles of alcoholic beverages from three premises involving a seizure value of RM6,218.
"In addition, seven notices under Section 32B of the Food Act 1983 were issued during the operation involving one offence of not specifying the list of ingredients, three offences of not having the warning against drinking liquor and three offences under the minimum 700 ml volume," he said at a press conference after conducting the operation here today.
Dr Norhizan said that, during the operation, the company found that many traders who were selling alcoholic drinks were not putting the right labels on the bottles as required.
