Deputy Health Minister Lee Boon Chye
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 10 (Bernama) -- The Health Ministry (KKM) will enforce the Guideline of Cell and Gene Therapy Products (CGTPs) for all industry players in 2021.
Deputy Health Minister Lee Boon Chye said the guideline had already existed since 2016 to advise academicians, researchers, doctors and industrialists to abide voluntarily.
“It is as a basic and ethical guide while they carry out their work or research. Once it is enforced later, it is mandatory for industry players to abide by it.
“As the cell therapy technology now attracts wide interest among companies and researchers and is growing rapidly in the country, the Health Ministry as the regulator of the industry always placed the interest and safety of patients as priority,” he said at a media conference after officiating the 6th Annual Malaysia Association for Cell Therapy Symposium 2018, here today.
Lee said this in order to avoid excessive claims on a certain product or research involving cell therapy to the extent of confusing the public.
