Plastic straw free campaign to raise awareness about recycling

JOHOR BAHRU, Nov 13 (Bernama) – SWM Environment Sdn Bhd in collaboration with JCI South Key recently held the inaugural plastic straw free campaign in Lorong Ismail, near Kulai, in the concession company’s efforts to raise public awareness on the importance of recycling practices.

SWM Environment’s Johor Regional manager Mohd Zan Arris said through the ‘Last Straw Rangoli’ activity, they involved the public in making Rangoli (kolam) using plastic straws.

“The SMW Environment also brought the 3R Troopers team which aims to create awareness and encourage recycling practices through exhibitions, games and recyclable item counters.

“Cultural heritage and recycling are key elements of this programme with the aim to create public awareness about recycling practices,” he said in a statement here today.

In the same programme, SMW Environment together with the Kulai Municipal Council (MPKu) and the Senai Assemblyman Community Centre also gave contributions to 60 needy families in the form of SWM Kasih Deepavali Kits around Kulai and essential items as well as RM1,000 to the Mentally Retarded Child Care Association Johor Bahru in conjunction with the Deepavali celebration.

The programme was also enlivened by Indian cultural performances, Slot Wayang Pacak, recycling exhibition and the Last Straw Exhibition of Johor.
