Dengue cases in Putrajaya drops 38 per cent compared to 2017

PUTRAJAYA, Nov 18 (Bernama) -- There was a drop of 38 per cent in dengue cases in Putrajaya  up to October 2018 compared with the corresponding period of 2017, said Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad.

He said that up to October 2018, there were 327 cases of dengue fever recorded in Putrajaya compared with 526 cases for the corresponding period of 2017.

"In maintaining cleanliness to prevent the problems of dengue fever, it is necessary to revive the gotong-royong culture especially in stratified residences such as condominiums,”he told reporters after officiating the 2018 Putrajaya Mega Gotong-royong programme at the Phase 4 Condominium, Precinct 9, here today.

Khalid said such ‘gotong-royong’ activities to clean up the housing area could be carried out at least once a month depending on the time specified by the party concerned.

Referring to dengue cases in the gotong-royong location today, the Phase 4 Condominium, Precinct 9, here, he said 14 dengue cases were recorded with one hot spot locality.

"The cause identified was garbage and weaknesses in maintaining cleanliness in the area as well as in the house to the extent that they have become breeding areas for larvae,”he said.
