LANGKAWI, Nov 23 (Bernama) -- The energy efficiency initiative and positive progress taking place at the Langkawi Hospital over the last three years has caught the attention of the Health Director-General, Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah who went there today.
In his latest entry on his official Facebook, he said Langkawi Hospital is slowly transforming into an energy efficient green concept hospital with the installation of solar panels on its car park roof and usage of light emitting diode (LED) lighting.
“They managed to save RM25,000 monthly in electricity bills (with the implementation of the solar panels and LED). Three years ago there were only seven specialists, but now we have 17 specialists in main specialities like medicine, paediatrics, orthopaedics, General Surgery, O & G (obstetrics and gynaecology) anaesthesia, radiology etc,” he said.
He said Langkawi Hospital had the potential to become a Major Specialist Hospital but still they need an additional medical block to cater for the needs of the people here.
“I hope this hospital can be transformed into a training and teaching hospital in time,” he said, adding that the commencement of an air ambulance service at the Langkawi Hospital earlier this year had also marked a new milestone in improving the the healthcare services in the island.
