Authorities to issue medical report on injured firefighter - Dzulkefly

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 29 (Bernama) -- Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said today the authorities will issue a medical report soon on the firefighter who was badly injured during a riot near a Hindu temple in Selangor on Tuesday.

He said the ministry was in communication with the National Heart Institute (IJN) and will issue the report soon.

“I am confident we can do this (issue the report) soon. It will be communicated by the relevant authority (IJN),” he said at a press conference after visiting the firefighter, Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, 24, at IJN.

Muhammad Adib was allegedly beaten up by a mob during a riot near the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in USJ 25, Putra Heights, near Subang Jaya early on Tuesday when firefighters had arrived there to put out a vehicle fire.

Dr Dzulkefly was asked whether the ministry will issue such a report in the wake of allegations and speculation circulating on social media on how Muhammad Adib was injured.

Yesterday, the Save Sri Maha Mariamman Temple Action Committee claimed that Muhammad Adib was not assaulted by the mob but was hit by a reversing fire truck. The Fire & Rescue Department has since dismissed the claim.

It is believed that Muhammad Adib was assaulted by a group of rioters when he was engaged in dousing a vehicle fire in front of the temple early Tuesday.

Muhammad Adib was first admitted to the Sime Darby Medical Centre in Subang Jaya. He was later transferred to IJN.

Meanwhile, IJN chief executive officer Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Azhari Yakub said Muhammad Adib is stable but still in a critical condition.

"He is still in intubation and still (uses) a lot of mechanical support but the bottom line is, the patient is critical but stable," he said.
