Sarawak Health Ministry seize cosmetics without notification worth RM1.07 million

KUCHING, Feb 26 (Bernama) -- The Sarawak State Health Department, through the Pharmacy Enforcement Branch (CPF) confiscated various types of cosmetics without notification valued at about RM1.07 million in a raid in Sibu town.

Its director Dr Jamilah Hashim said in the raid which was conducted on February 18 at a premises in Sibu,  35,000 boxes of cosmetics without notification were confiscated.

“All the cosmetics were believed to have been brought in illegally for the domestic market especially in Sarawak, she said in a statement here today.

She said the CPF was conducting a full investigation into all parties involved and will take stern action.

Any individual or company found involved in the selling of such cosmetics will be investigated under the Sale of Drugs Act 1952.

She said the Sarawak Health Department also warns any individual or company which stock these cosmetics to immediately stop selling, distributing or using them as their quality and safety were not guaranteed.

Dr Jamilah said members of the public can check the notification status of cosmetics through the website https://www.npra.gov.my in the “Product Status” column or contact the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) at telephone number 03-78835400.

She said cosmetics with notification had notification numbers beginning with the letters “NOT”, followed by a nine-digit number and ending with the letter ‘K’.

She added that members of the public and the media were also encouraged to report and provide any information on any cosmetics which are doubtful in a joint effort with the Health Ministry to combat the import and sale of prohibited cosmetics at the website https://www.pharmacy.gov.my
