LABUAN, March 11 (Bernama) -- Residents of Taman Perumahan Sg Bedaun carried out a massive gotong-royong over the weekend to eradicate Aedes mosquito breeding grounds as dengue cases in this federal territory were reported to be on the rise.
The gotong-royong was carried out with the cooperation of the People’s Representative Council, Taman Perumahan Sg Bedaun Residents Association and political parties.
Thirteen cases of dengue were reported so far this year, up from the seven during the corresponding period last year, Labuan Health Department director Dr Ismuni Bohari said today.
He said his enforcement team had detected that Taman Perumahan Sg Bedaun was at high risk of a dengue epidemic as a number of mosquito breeding grounds were found there.
“Increased enforcement operation in many dengue-prone areas and active surveillance through health centres and hospitals attached to the Directorate of Health Services have helped to detect more cases,” he told Bernama.
