KUALA LUMPUR, March 13 (Bernama) -- The Islamic Medical Association Malaysia's Response and Relief Team (IMARET) today sent volunteer doctors to Johor Baru to help the victims of toxic fumes caused by the pollution of Sungai Kim Kim in Pasir Gudang.
The first team of volunteers comprising three doctors and two paramedics headed by IMARET's coordinator, Dr Ahmad Munawwar Helmi Salim, will be working with Johor Bahru District Health Centre to provide emergency first aid to victims.
“IMARET also bring face masks and other much-needed items at ground zero and we will conduct our operations at Dewan Orang Ramai Taman Pasir Putih,” said Dr Ahmad Munawwar Helmi to Bernama, here, today.
IMARET have also set up a special donation box for the mission. Members of the public can send their donations to Islamic Medical Association Malaysia's account (CIMB: 8600 703 709) with 'Pasir Gudang’ as reference.
Yesterday, the media reported that the number of victims sharply rose to more than 200 following the second wave of the incident.
Johor state health director Dr Selahuddeen Abd Aziz said the second wave mostly involved students from SK Taman Pasir Putih and SMK Taman Pasir Putih.
