400 IVF babies delivered in Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in 10 years

Datuk Dr Norhizan Ismail

ALOR SETAR, April 10 (Bernama) -- The Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) here, has successfully delivered over 400 babies through the In vitro fertilisation treatment (IVF), since it started offering the service 10 years ago, to couples who have difficulty conceiving naturally.

State Health director, Datuk Dr Norhizan Ismail said the HSB's Reproductive Medical and Test Tube Unit began to receive the first IVF case in 2009, and the first test tube baby was safely delivered at the hospital on Dec 3 of the same year.

“Currently HSB is one of the four hospitals under the Health Ministry which offers IVF treatment services beside Kuala Lumpur Hospital, Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu and Likas Women and Children’s Hospital in Sabah,” he said.

He said among the criteria for IVF treatment at HSB, the couple must have a legitimate marriage, be below 42 years old and have no children from the current marriage.
