Malaysian doctors circumcise south Thailand's children

PATTANI, April 14 (Bernama) -- A group of Malaysian doctors are providing charity circumcision services to children in Pattani, south Thailand.

Headed by Kuala Terengganu’s Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (SNZH) neurosurgeon, Dr Nujaimin Udin, the Nusantara Charity Circumcision Programme  had circumcised 100 children aged from six to 12 years in the turbulent region.

He said 80 doctors, paramedics from SNZH and volunteers took part in the programme this time.

Dr Nujaimin, who is also Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital Post Graduate Medical Education Society (PGMES) chairman, said this was the fourth involvement of the programme in south Thailand.

‘’We hope the programme can help children of the very poor in Pattani to be circumcised,’’ he told Bernama here today.

Prior to this, the same programme was held in Sungai Golok, Yala and Narathiwat in south Thailand.

The Nusantara Charity Circumcision Programme, organised by the Terengganu Malaysian Association of Medical Assistants (MAMA) was held in conjunction with the school holiday and had also been held in countries such as Vietnam, Cambodia and Indonesia, other than in Sabah and Sarawak, Malaysia.

‘’We target between 100 to 150 children for each programme organised,’’ he said.

Other than providing circumcision services, Dr Nujaimin said doctors and volunteers also contributed schooling aid and donations from Malaysians to the children.
