GEORGE TOWN, May 26 (Bernama) -- The Community Emergency Response Team George Town (CERT George Town), a non-governmental organisation, will carry out its ‘Ops Raya’ from June 1 to 6, to provide medical assistance to victims of road accidents.
State Agriculture, Agro-based Industries, Rural Development and Health Committee chairman Dr Afif Bahardin said the team currently serving the people of Penang with six motorcycles equipped with first aid kits including Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and oxygen supply.
“Members of CERT George Town have been trained with the basic life support as well to stabilise patient before the arrival of medical team from nearby hospital,” he said after launching the programme, here today.
Dr Afif said the team had carried out similar operations during the Chinese New Year celebration this year for 10 days.
Meanwhile, its chairman Lee Chiew Wan said CERT George Town was a humanitarian initiative on voluntary basis to provide assistance to those in need and carried out charitable activities around Penang.
Launched on Feb 5, 2019, thus far it has with 55 volunteers and operates 24 hours at the Taman Pekaka multipurpose hall to provide emergency assistance in Batu Uban, Southwest and nearby areas, every Saturday.
