SMARTSEL's SELGEM to develop comprehensive Geospatial database

KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 (Bernama) --  SMARTSEL Sdn Bhd (SMARTSEL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) (MBI), has launched the Selangor Geospatial Management System (SELGEM) project.

It is a joint venture between SMARTSEL and IMOSS Technology Sdn Bhd (ITSB) and aimed at developing a comprehensive database of geospatial data of Selangor.

The data will be useful for a wide range of applications such as disaster management, environmental protection, utility mapping, agriculture and plantation management and river management.

The Area of Interest (AOI) for the SELGEM project is located at the Klang River with a total of 51 square km (5,100 hectares) and is expected to contribute towards comprehensive development planning as well as greater efficiencies in Selangor’s land use.

“Selangor believes the focus on sustainability is key for more inclusive development. Through a centralised geospatial management system, all the relevant government agencies, authorities, private sector and civil society stakeholders, can access accurate and comprehensive geospatial data in a timely manner for planning, decision-making, monitoring and enforcement,” SMARTSEL said in a statement.

The perspective of foreign investment is also addressed through the availability of up-to-date and relevant information, which would give Selangor an important edge when investors identify and select an appropriate industry to be developed in the state.

Ultimately, the SELGEM Project will help the people through improved environmental safety and health, along with many other significant benefits to Selangor.
