SEREMBAN, June 25 (Bernama) -- The Negeri Sembilan National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) have introduced two new services for the residents in the state this year.
The services, which would be given for free, were cervical cancer screening through HPV DNA test and the MyPapaCare programme.
State Woman, Family and Welfare Committee chairman Nicole Tan Lee Koon said that the HPV DNA test was aimed at detecting the presence of high risk Human Papiloma Virus DNA or carsinogen (cancer triggering agent) in the cervical cells of a woman whereby the presence of the virus could cause cervical cancer in women.
‘Incidents of cervical cancer rise after the age of 30 and is found highest at the age of 60 until 69 years. About 60 per cent of women only realised they have cancer after entering the fourth and fifth stages. At these stages, the probability of recovering is 30 per cent compared to 90 per cent if the woman conducted the examination at an early stage.
‘’This test is very easy and only takes about five minutes. It can also personally done by inserting a cotton bud inside the vagina and spinning it 10 times to ensure cancer cells are caught on the cotton bud. The cotton bud is then put inside a tube and sent to the LPPKN laboratory,’’ she told a media conference here today.
On the MyPapaCare programme, she said that it was aimed at creating awareness to men on their health well-being through body massage and by self-examination.
