NGO gives Pasir Gudang air pollution patients, those on duty young coconuts

JOHOR BAHRU, June 26 (Bernama) – Empathy for those affected by the latest episode of air pollution in Pasir Gudang has led to Persatuan Kebajikan Ikhlas Johor Bahru (PKIJB) contributing young coconuts with water that has health properties to victims and those on duty at the Pasir Gudang Indoor Stadium.

“Coconut water is very good for health and can be taken by both the patients as well as workers at the stadium.

“The coconuts, which cost RM2.80 each, come from around Pontian and were paid for using money contributed by association members,” said PKIJB chairman, S. George Wilson, to reporters today, adding 300 were donated today while 100 were given on the third day (Saturday) of the pollution problem unfolding.

He said the association donated 100 young coconuts back in March, too, during the Sungai Kim Kim toxic fumes crisis.

The association, which was started three years ago and has 380 members, intends to continue its coconut contribution until the air pollution in Pasir Gudang has cleared up, said Wilson who works as a contractor.
