No new Chikungunya cases reported in Kota Setar



ALOR SETAR, July 2 (Bernama) -- There has been no new cases of Chikungunya reported in Kota Setar as of today, said Kedah Health director Datuk Dr Norhizan Ismail.

He said the number of cases recorded in the two localities, namely a row of shops near City Plaza remained at 30 cases and the seven cases in Simpang Kuala, bringing the total to 37 cases as of yesterday.

“The last case reported in Simpang Kuala was on June 26 and at City Plaza on June 27. So no new cases have been reported in both outbreak localities and all the victims are in stable condition.

“The Kota Setar District Health Office has resumed vector control activities at City Plaza where on June 30, 434 premises had been fogged, especially in the areas where the cases had occurred,” he said in a statement here today.

 Similar controls were also conducted at Simpang Kuala where 281 premises were inspected and 16 compounds valued at RM8,000 were issued under the Destruction of Disease Bearing Insects Act (APSPP) 1975 to owners of premises breeding Aedes.

“People who have symptoms of fever and joint pain, especially residents in Jalan Tunku Ibrahim area around City Plaza and Simpang Kuala are advised to seek further treatment at nearby health centres,” he said.
