RM21 million for works on MRI, O&G sites in Sabah hospital

SANDAKAN, July 8 (Bernama) -- The Health Ministry will spend RM21 million on expanding and renovating the premises housing its magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) centre and obstetrics and gynaecology (O&G) department, at the Duchess of Kent Hospital (HDOK) here.

The ministry’s secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Chen Chaw Min, said the move was to provide comfort to patients in the hospital.

"We have allocated RM9 million to carry out works on the MRI site and another RM12 million at the O&G area which includes a patient assessment centre," he told reporters after a visit to the hospital today.

Dr Chen also said that he was in discussion with the Sabah Health and People’s Wellbeing Minister Datuk Frankie Poon Ming Fung, on finding a temporary site to overcome the hospital’s parking problem until its multi-storey parking project is built and completed.

Dr Chen also launched a RM3.7 million energy-saving project that will save electricity costs for the hospital.
