KOTA KINABALU, Sept 20 --The 7th Asian Congress of Health Psychology (ACHP) 2019 is the best platform to disseminate information and knowledge on health psychology that will subsequently benefit the country and region, said Sabah Education and Innovation Assistant Minister Jenifer Lasimbang.
She said when it came to health psychology, the country focused heavily on mental health making it an important agenda at the national level.
"This can be seen through meetings and formation of special task force on mental health issues following worrying trends of mental health-related incidents," she told reporters after officiating the congress here today.
It is important to give emotional support to someone with suicidal tendency, she added.
She said community members must be aware and sensitive to suicidal warning signs and in offering emotional support especially to those who are depressed and have suicidal tendencies.
The three-day conference organised by Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) in collaboration with Cyberjaya University College of Medical Sciences (CUCMS) and the Asian Society of Health Psychology (ASHP) began yesterday.
