PUTRAJAYA, Feb 1 -- The cumulative number of positive 2019 novel coronavirus cases in Malaysia remains at eight, said Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said the number recorded as of noon on Saturday involved three cases among patients under investigation (PUI) and five close contact cases.

The cumulative number of PUI cases for coronavirus infection is 142 people and six are awaiting laboratory test results while close contact with coronavirus positive cases remain at 32 people, he said in a statement here today.

He said the Health Ministry had also taken note of a suspected coronavirus patient who had refused to be placed under supervision and observation in a hospital in Selangor as was viralled on social media yesterday.

After the hospital filed a police report, the suspected patient was detected and admitted to a ward for observation.

Results of the clinical sample taken on Jan 31, reported negative for coronavirus, he said, while thanking the police for their cooperation in tracking down the patient.
