Polio vaccinations for kindergarten: JPNS to work with KKM

KOTA KINABALU, Feb 10 -- The Sabah Education Department (JPNS) is ready to cooperate with the Ministry of Health (MOH) if the polio vaccination programme is extended to the kindergartens in the state.

JPNS director Mistirine Radin said the department would give its full co-operation with whatever type of collaboration is needed by MOH.

"But so far, JPNS has not been able to obtain confirmation on the matter (polio vaccination)," she told reporters after visiting Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal at the Sabah State Administrative Centre (PPNS) here today.

The polio vaccination programme is provided free to children under the age of five in the state to prevent a polio outbreak after a three-month-old boy was diagnosed with polio on December 8 last year.

Meanwhile, on a video concerning a brawl between a group of secondary school students recently, Mistirine said JPNS would leave it to the police to investigate.

She said the incident happened outside the school which would ensure there would not be a repeat.

Commenting on the visit, Mistirine said it was a token of appreciation to the state government for the cooperation given to JPNS.

In addition, JPNS also invited the Chief Minister to launch the state level Teacher's Day celebration which would be held on April 17 in front of the International Technology & Commercial Centre (ITCC Penampang), Penampang, she added.
